| Vietnam sues at WTO over U.S. shrimp antidumping duties |
| Vietnam last week filed a lawsuit against the U.S. imposition of antidumping tariffs on its frozen shrimp with the World Trade Organization (WTO) panel in Geneva, Switzerland. |
The move was the first step in the panels settlement process. Three panel members that were appointed by WTO Director General Pascal Lamy in July will start to consider the lawsuit and be responsible for assisting the WTO dispute settlement body (DSB) in making rulings or recommendations.
After six months, the panel will give its final conclusions to concerned parties; three weeks later it will inform all WTO member countries about the result.
When recognizing any violation of WTO regulations, the panel will put forth recommendations. If the DSB agrees, the panels final conclusions will become the DSBs rulings or recommendations.
Vietnam and the United States held consultations in March but failed to reach any consensus for the controversial issues. |
