 The plan aims to boost the development of the islands system in an effective and sustainable manner in order to achieve breakthrough in economic development of Viet Nam’s sea and islands. At the same time, the islands will be developed into the national defense system to better protect the national sovereignty, and also implement the guidelines of the Communist Party and the State on Viet Nam’s Sea Strategy to 2020.
Accordingly, the islands with favorable natural conditions and abundant potentials will be on the focus to boost their economy and contribute to the country’s overall economic development. These islands will play a vital role to link the islands’ economy with the the country’s sea, coastal and inland economies, and with international trading.
To achieve the targets, the infrastructure facilities will be constructed on these islands to boost their economy and connect the islands with the mainland, and protect the country’s sea waters.
Consequently, an essential and stable transition in the islands’ economy will be gained. Some key industries will be developed by utilizing the advantage of the islands’ conditions. These islands are set to contribute to 0.5 percent of the country economy by 2020 from 0.2 percent at present, with annual growth rate of 14-15 percent.
To implement this plan, the government will carry out synchronized solutions concerning completing the legal framework, human resource development, speed up application of science and technology, and basic investigation and scientific researches. (VNA) |
