(Mard - 17/06/2010) - On July, 14th a six-month sum up conference of Cuu Long River Delta Tra fish Production and Consumption Steering Board was held in Can Tho city and presided by Mr Cao Duc Phat - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The report revealed by the end of June, 2010, the total tra fish breading area in Cuu Long River Delta has been 3,749 ha, down 12 percent against the same period of 2009. The number of bigger scale of more than 10 ha per pond increased while small scale breeding households declined. Material fish prices are ranging between 14,000-18,500 VNd per kilogram meanwhile cost prices are 14,000-16,000 VND per kilo. Therefore, in some time breeders are able to be in loss. Basically, tra fish breeding still faces many difficulties. Profits of both breeders and enterprises are still low.

In the opinion of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, tra fish consumption markets have been increased and the linkage between the breeders and enterprises are more closer. However the export prices have kept declining. Thus, the Minister required higher productivity in tra fish production by improving the quality of products. Some solutions including supporting breeders towards Global GAP, supporting enterprises set up tra fish floor prices when entering some main markets with a view to protect the product prestige and to ensure the best profit.
