EUR/US$ exchange rate fluctuation hinders seafood exports
According to VASEP General Secretary, Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe, Viet Nam seafood companies have recently won fewer orders from EU customers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac, Chairwoman of VASEP Marine Seafood Committee and Director of Hai Nam Co., Ltd (Binh Thuan province), revealed not only her company but other VASEP members companies that export to the EU also encountered the same difficulties.

This situation was attributed to devaluation of EUR to the US dollar, which forced many EU importers not to sign new contracts or want to buy at lower prices.

Currently, EU is the largest importer of Vietnamese seafood. According to Vietnam Customs, in the first five months of 2010, Viet Nam exported 133,540MT of seafood for a value of US$406 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent in volume and 13.3 percent in value.

Currently, five EU largest importers of Vietnamese seafood are Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and France.
