VASEP demands CFA to remove distorted information about tra fish
VGP - The Việt Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) on June 8 expressed its strong opposition to the distorted information about Vietnamese pangasius (tra fish) on the Catfish Farmers of America’s (CFA) website www.safecatfish.com and demanded the CFA to stop unfair acts.
The CFA’s distorted information is aimed to humiliate Vietnamese tra fish, VASEP said, noting that Vietnamese farmers no longer raise tra fish in floating cages in the Mekong River but in ponds, following SQF1000 and other international standards to meet strict requirements of the US and consumers all over the world.

Vietnamese tra fish businesses are establishing farm-to-fork production chains. More and more tra fish raising areas in Việt Nam are being granted with Global GAP certificates. Vietnamese tra fish products are exported to more than 120 countries and territories worldwide.

According to the National Agro–Forestry–Fisheries Quality Assurance Department, the regular survey results from 2004 till now reveal that all water areas for raising fish in the Mekong Delta meet quality requirements.

Sine 1999, the Department has controlled chemical residues in marine products and efficiently prevented the overuse of chemicals and antibiotics in these products in general and tra fish in particular. The related authorities in the US, the EU and Canada have highly appreciated such the program.

Therefore, VASEP demands CFA to immediately dismantle such wrong information about Vietnamese tra fish on the website and never take any similar unhealthy actions which negatively affect the Việt Nam-US bilateral relations.

VASEP also strongly opposes CFA in extending the “catfish” definition in order to levy more import barriers on tra fish imported into the US.
