Export of mussel (squid, octopus, clams, oysters, etc) of Vietnam is growing rapidly, especially the EU, in the context that many other marine products must be reduced by IUU fishing origins of the EU.
According to VASEP, in four months of this year, the country exported nearly 30,000 tons of mollusks with a turnover of 113 million U.S. dollars, increasing significantly over the same period last year in trend of export increase in recent months.
Although export Mussel to EU has also inspected by IUU as other products export, but this group of product has since recovered since March. EU surpassed Korea to become the biggest export market, in which the strongest increase is for clam.
VASEP said that since this March, export clam to EU increases.
In Brussels seafood fairs in April last year, the largest seafood fairs held in Europe annually, the Vietnam seafood enterprises to participate the fair has recorded high demand orders from EU customers for mollusks, especially the clam products.
However, current difficulties in the country’s seafood industry is raw material deficit mollusks, squid, sea mining, the loss of the season, oysters died in a series by the effects of prolonged hot weather, forcing Vietnam companies to enter foreign mollusks from the processing of orders to meet importers.
Clam areas of coastal provinces near the Mekong Delta area of 20,000 hectares but is gradually reduced with the output value of oysters each year about 2,100 billion. |
