The quantity of fish caught is 5% higher than last year.
– According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farm Development, the total qauntity of fish caught in 2009 is measured at nearly 2.22 million tons, 5% higher than last year.

Sea fish is over 2 million tons of this 2.22 million, 4% higher than in 2008.

They said that the industry this year were facing a lot of difficulties in fishing conditions and caused by bad weather including storm number 9 and 11. To cope with these problems, the ministry and other agencies of provinces and cities have efficiently given the solutions and supporting policies to encourage fishermen to fish off-shore according to Decree No. 289 issued by the Prime Minister.

Additionally, according to the ministry, aquaculture faming industry is better this year. The ministry has seriously lead the farming periods and the anti-epidemic management as well as controlled the income factors in the situation that the markets were not good, the price was too low and the supporting policy about interest rate has not been given yet.

Besides, the ministry was very good at breaking down the statistic and making predictions especially about the main markets and products, so they have efficiently changed the strategy. The ministry was also giving the suggestions about the encouraging consumption budget given by the Prime Minister, which supported the Pangasius and shrimp farmers, such as centralizing and spreading the debts. Consequently, in the first 10 months of 2009, the quantity of aquaculture farmed is over 2.14 million tons, 3.8% higher than the same period last year. The quantity of Pangasius in2009 is expected to be 1 million tons.
