According to statistics of Vietnam Custóm, seafood export of Vietnam reached 466 million USD in July, 2010 up 16.8% over June, 2010. Export value to EU was 109 million USD, up 17.8%; to the US was 95.7 million USD, up 44.3%; and to Japan was 90.1 million USD, up more than 11% compared to last month.

VGP - Việt Nam exported nearly US $2.5 billion worth of seafood in the first 7 months of this year, gaining a year-on-year increase of 13.3%, according to the General Department of Việt Nam Customs.

Recently, the Shrimp Seeds No.1 Company of Bac Lieu province has provided more than 2,200,000 black tiger shrimp seeds, worth around VND100 million, to more than 100 poor households in two districts of Tran De and Vinh Chau, Soc Trang province.

Shrimp has overtaken pangasius as Vietnam’s leading seafood export as prices reached their highest level in 10 years, driven by demand from the United States.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOIT) issued Decision No 3129/QĐ-BCT on June 15, 2010, approving the Plan for development of agro-forestry-fisheries processing tool and equipment manufacturing industry to 2015, and vision to 2025.

According to statistics from the Vietnam General Department of Customs, by the end of June 15, 2010, Vietnam had exported 37,500 tonnes of tuna worth over 147 million USD, up 71.2% in quantity and up 98% in value compared with the same period last year.

In the conference, Vietnam Association of Seafood Export and Production Enterprises said in the first 5 months, Vietnam exported 248,834 tonnes of tra fish. EU still the biggest market with the share of 35.3 percent in volume. At present, enterprises set up their own trademarks but pay little attention to Vietnam tra fish trademark.

According to VASEP General Secretary, Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe, Viet Nam seafood companies have recently won fewer orders from EU customers.

Ca Mau Province has more than 135 thousand farm households of farming shrimp, who every year need 12 to 13 billion of the breeders to farm on the area nearly 265 thousand ha, but the Province itself only produce about five to six billion of the breeders, the others must import from other provinces.

Vietnam’s seafood exports to Egypt include peeled shrimp, white and red basa fillet. However, over the past year, demand for these goods began to decline due to the incorrect information by the Egyptian media, which has destroyed both Vietnam exporters and Egypt importers.
Early 2009, before the misleading information about Vietnam’s basa fish was released, Vietnamese basa products were present throughout Egypt, not only in large and small supermarkets, wholesale markets, but also many retail stores in small markets.
